Module Selection at UCL takes place in September (new students) or in April to May (continuing students). You will receive an e-mail containing a Guide to Module Selection, which explains the process in detail. Current students can also find these guides in the EISPS Student Handbook. Dual Degree: European Social and Political Studies BA

Second-year Dual Degree should start preparing for their transition to UCL in February/March. You will receive via email a Transition/Welcome Pack with lots of useful information to help you prepare. Besides registering for modules in April/May, you can start looking into accommodation and how to apply for a visa (if applicable) from France.

As a Dual Degree student it is very important that you don't forget to enrol with UCL in your first-year and re-enrol during your second year. Failure to do this will cause severe delays in your arrival at UCL for your third year.

You should also make sure you login into your UCL account and check your UCL email regularly. If you haven't done this for a while, you might have lost access. To regain it, please follow the instructions here: Forgotten user ID or password, or contact IT Support.

CAS Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies

To apply for a visa, you will need a CAS number. UCL can only provide this once your progression from your second to third year has been confirmed (i.e. after UCL's Exam Board, usually mid-June). You can start preparing the paperwork in May/June and send it to the EISPS office via email for signing (send it to the Teaching and Learning Administrator), but it will only be fully ready after your progression is confirmed. English Language Level Requirements

For the visa, the UK government requires proof of English level less than two-years old. Usually, the English test you provided at the beginning of your studies will have elapsed, so UCL will arrange for you to take a new test. We will get in touch with you via email if you need to take one.   

Accommodation

Dual Degree students arriving at UCL are treated like new first-year students for allocation of a place in UCL Accommodation. This means that you will be prioritised over returning students for UCL Accommodation. You must apply before the deadline to qualify. See Accommodation at UCL for more information.

The European and International Social and Political Studies (EISPS) Society was formed in the spring of 2022. Past events include soirées, embassy visits and talks.

  • Ground, Second and Third floors and in the basement of 33-35 Torrington Place.
  • EISPS administrative offices are rooms 2.2 and 2.4 on the second floor.
  • EISPS Common Room is in the basement.
  • EISPS Seminar Room is in G02 on the ground floor.

Notice boards are located in the Common Room. These contain:

  • Communications from staff
  • Communications from students
  • Information on jobs, postgraduate courses and research grants, conferences and seminars, the European Society and Newsletter

Your UCL email address will be used for all UCL-related email correspondence. Please therefore check this address regularly.

UCL Library

All registered students are entitled to use all parts the UCL library.

Please remember to bring your College Identity Card. The arrangement and lay-out of the Library are described in the Library Guide which is available from all Library issue desks.

University Library

The University Library is a major academic library in the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (entrance on the fourth floor of the Senate House, Malet Street, WC1E 7HU). A ticket may be obtained upon showing a UCL ID card.

UCL Library, the University Library and other London libraries are computer-linked. It is therefore possible to save several journeys by logging in to the main library to see if a book is available elsewhere.

EISPS Library

EISPS has a small library (Room 2.4, second floor, 33-35 Torrington Place) consisting of core texts used heavily on EISPS modules as well as dissertations of former EISPS students that can be helpful in conceiving and structuring your own research. Students are encouraged to consult this collection during EISPS office hours. Items can be loaned for two-week periods, with renewals possible.
