About us
Located in the heart of literary London, UCL was one of the first universities in Britain to teach English at undergraduate level. We are regularly ranked one of the best English departments in the world, and are the only one in the UK to provide one-to-one tutorial teaching.
In the recent National Student Survey (2025), 100% respondents described the BA in English as ‘intellectually stimulating’, 98.6% expressed satisfaction with ‘Academic support’, and 98.2% praised the ‘teaching on my course'.
