Welcome to UCL Arts & Humanities

We are a world-leading faculty of exceptional breadth and diversity, recognised globally for its excellence in both teaching and research.

The Faculty combines traditional academic disciplines with modern ideas of creativity and practice, putting interdisciplinary engagement at the forefront. We are a diverse, engaged and vibrant community in the heart of Bloomsbury, one of the most beautiful and exciting quarters of London, and a world-leading hub of culture, the arts and the creative humanities.

In the Times Higher Education World University Rankings by subject (2024), UCL is ranked sixth globally for the arts & humanities. We offer a range of high-quality undergraduate, postgraduate and continued professional development programmes across UCL’s campuses in Bloomsbury and at UCL East and taught by some of the best scholars of their generation.

The Faculty is home to ten departments, fifteen centres and two institutes. We have been foundational to UCL’s ethos since its establishment in 1826 and have helped shape and transform the UK’s higher education landscape with several of the first academic chairs in arts and humanities subjects. We are also a centre of excellence in academic research, coming sixth overall in REF2021 in terms of research power.

The Faculty’s legacy is substantial, yet we pride ourselves in remaining current and agile, are constantly evolving to ensure we remain relevant and input meaningfully into contemporary global challenges. A humanities education will equip you for life.

We are dedicated to our students, proud of our worldwide alumni and inspired by our academics.

Together, we showcase how the arts and humanities make life worth living.

I am delighted to welcome you to join us on our journey.

Stella Bruzzi, Dean of UCL Arts & Humanities.
