The Department of Greek and Latin has long been committed to an inclusive and supportive culture for everyone; this attitude has been recognised by successive Athena Swan Bronze Awards.
In this spirit the Department is continuously working towards improving matters of equality and inclusion within the Department, within the institution and within the subject community. For instance, it is keen to diversify the student body and enhance access to Classics, as documented by its Widening Participation activities.
In relation to current staff and students, the Department has an active EDI Committee, which meets termly to review the departmental position on EDI matters and to discuss further actions for the future. This is an open and supportive forum, open to all members of the Department, for discussion and initiatives. Anonymous submissions via staff and student representatives are also possible.
For further information on EDI matters, please contact the Department’s Inclusion Lead at the Classics office.
The Department also has a Wellbeing Champion, a Disability Champion, an Accessibility Champion, a Mental Health First Aider and a Dignity Adviser, who are all happy to be contacted and to provide support and advice.
