It was the most wonderful experience of being amongst others who were so keen on art.
What inspired you to study at UCL?
The Slade and Royal College of Art were the two best postgraduate establishments in the UK (world!) in ‘my day’! I was selected to attend the Slade for sculpture.
What attracted you to study your degree?
Sculpture was my automatic desired life involvement.
What did you enjoy most about studying in London?
Concentrated studio work time, plus things like ‘record library’ which was very new in those days. Walk to Camden Town nearest - too poor to pay for the Tube [London Underground]!
What is your favourite memory of UCL?
Working alone in basement weekends.
What advice would you give to current or prospective students?
Be dedicated to your dream, study/research/learn… You have a lifetime on which to later build the embryos in your creative imagination!
What is your current profession?
Sculptor. I work with clay, plaster, bronze, and stone.
Briefly describe your journey, from graduating to where you are now.
I gained scholarships for a year to Italy, then Greece.
If you work hard and are dedicated, you get noticed by others who can recommend you. The foundry manager… the gallery… the architect…
I have never asked anyone to show my work but fortunately I have always been asked! Not saying that to boast but just it can be done if you are on good terms dealing with others you meet and they see how hardworking and totally dedicated you are. (Yes, as a ‘girl’, my parents wanted me to work in a bank!)
