Being A BAScer

Arif Woozeer
Looking back, my semester at UCL feels like a blur of good conversations, long walks, and moments that quietly stuck with me. Academically, the BASc programme was exactly what I’d hoped for — flexible, curious, and full of people who cared about big questions. I got to take Behaviour Change: An Interdisciplinary Approach (BECH0001), a module completely outside what’s offered at my home university, SMU. The first time I sat in that class, surrounded by students from psychology, policy, and even computer science, I remember thinking: oh, this is what interdisciplinary actually looks like.
Outside class, I tried to make the most of London life. The Hiking Club became my weekend escape — from muddy boots in the Chilterns to cliffside views near Brighton, it was the best reminder that there’s more to the UK than Zone 1.

Due to the nature of the BASc degree offering modules from varying departments, it is important that students have a space of their own where they can partake in private study, group work or social activity. The BASc Common Room is designed for this exact use and is solely for Arts and Sciences students. The Common Room is usually a hive of activity where students share ideas and engage in debate which helps to foster the interdisciplinary ethos of the programme even further.
The Arts and Sciences Society is the BASc student society which organises an array of social activities such as film nights, music nights and culture-sharing events. For more information about the Society and to see what they have been up to recently, see the Arts and Sciences Society Facebook page.
