Saturday 27 January 2018 from 1-5pm in Seminar Rooms 3 and 4, 20 Gordon Square
This symposium seeks to consider dance and vulnerability. It wants to explore what it means to move on unstable ground, whether created by an oppressive state or the terms of race, class, gender, sexuality, time and even artistic conventions. The symposium also seeks to engage dance's own vulnerability as it comes into contact with other mediums and sites of display, varying from photography to video and exhibition spaces.
To be vulnerable is to be exposed to the possibility of harm. What kind of histories can be written from a vulnerable site? And how can dance as a method of training and display help us to describe this?
