This workshop will share the results of Prof Siracusano’s research regarding the materiality of paintings and sculptures produced within the viceroyalty of Peru (16th to 18th centuries), offering participants an opportunity to engage directly with these materials. Prof Siracusano will bring lab samples related to her former projects to analyse their material and historical-technical conditions, using the equipment available in the Department’s Material Studies laboratory. Prof Siracusano will place these results into context by contrasting them with written historical sources, drawing on insights from the Archaeology of the Making and Anthropology of Matter methodologies.
Prof Siracusano is Leverhulme Visiting Professor at UCL, CONICET Superior Researcher (Argentina), Professor at the University of Buenos Aires, and Director of the Centro MATERIA at the Universidad Nacional de Tres de Febrero.
Workshop consists of a 1 hr lecture followed by 1-2 hrs (depending on number of participants and interest) of hands-on viewing.
