Danae Filioti – History of Art

Derek Jarman Word & Image will address Jarman’s work as an artist in the light of his involvement with multiple media beyond film – especially his extensive output of painting, collage and writing. Jarman’s interests in the history of art and in nature clearly informed his films in innovative ways, and here we take these interests seriously as a part of his wide-ranging artistic practice – the full extent of which will be on show at the Manchester Art Gallery from 2 December 2021 in a major exhibition Derek Jarman: Protest!. The event will raise questions about the significance of his work as an artist and writer for contemporary concerns with activism, ecology and environment.

Participants include:

  • Edward Christie
  • Briony Fer
  • Seán Kissane
  • Bob Mills
  • Alexandra Parsons
  • Mark Sladen

Organised jointly by CSCA and Past Imperfect.
