Art/Architecture in London courses 2018/19

These elective courses are open to students, both UCL degree students and visiting affiliate/study abroad students, who are registered outside the History of Art Department.

Each year the History of Art Department offers a number of exciting gallery and/or building-based courses, which offer students the opportunity to study at first hand the extraordinary wealth of London’s architecture and museum and gallery collections.

Starting in 2018/19 we have amended the titles of these courses to give their tutors greater flexibility and range to their syllabi. So the titles and their codes have changed.

Each course lasts one term (10 weeks of teaching) with a value of 15 credits (4 US credits). Courses run in the Autumn term; and also in the Spring term with the assessments for each course completed by the end of the respective term. Assessment is by two pieces of coursework, each given equal weighting. All courses must be taken for credit. Auditing is not permitted.

Important, so please note: the times for these courses are the times the courses begin and end on site, so it is very important, when making your course selection, that you allow sufficient time (approximately 30 minutes) to travel to and from UCL and the designated galleries/architectural sites. It will not be possible to take any of these courses if it then means you will have back-to-back teaching with a UCL-based class (ie if a UCL-based class ends at 11am, you cannot take an Art/Architecture in London class which begins at 11am).

Registration

All students must first email the History of Art Affiliate Tutor/Course Director to secure a place on one of these courses.

Each course has 18 places and these are allocated on a first come first served basis. Once your place has been approved by the Affiliate Tutor/Course Director, then you may add this course to your Portico registrations. Any registrations directly onto Portico without prior approval from the Affiliate Tutor/Course Director will be rejected.

Because of considerable interest in and demand for these courses, students can only take ONE course per term.
