Caribbean Archaeology

This course is an introductory overview of the archaeology of the Caribbean Islands, the region where the Old World encountered the New World in AD 1492. The approach is historical and lectures will revolve around three themes:

• ancient population movements from continental South America and between islands,
• regional interaction spheres and exchange networks, and
• local adaptations / historical developments, from c. 4000 BC up to and including the 'Columbian' encounter, AD 1492-1530.
