Institute of Archaeology Ethics Committee

Information about the UCL Institute of Archaeology's Ethics Committee

The Institute of Archaeology's Ethics Committee convenes as is required to offer advice on any ethical issues arising from staff and student research or working practice in addition to its assessment of low risk ethics applications.

Typical problems that we can offer advice and recommendations on include (but are not restricted to):

  • working with unprovenanced material
  • concerns with the background or ethical positions of proposed sponsors or project funders
  • repatriation issues
  • developing an ethical research methodology

Anyone wishing to put a problem before the committee should contact the Acting Chair of the Committee, Rachael Sparks, at IoA.ethics@ucl.ac.uk
