Trinidad Rico

Director of the Cultural Heritage and Preservation Studies programme in the Department of Art History at Rutgers University, Trinidad’s areas of research in critical heritage include risk, Islamic materiality, ethnography and the vernacularization of heritage discourses and expertise.

Her research projects focus on the mobilisation of Islamic values and sustainability in the Arabian Peninsula, and heritage and secrecy in South America.

She is co-editor of Cultural Heritage in the Arabian Peninsula (2014); Heritage Keywords: Rhetoric and Redescription in Cultural Heritage (2015), author of Constructing Destruction: Heritage narratives in the tsunami city (2016), and editor of the series Heritage Studies in the Muslim World.

 Research Interests

Trinidad has been a guest lecturer at the Institute since 2013-2014, teaching for the module Heritage, Globalization and Development. In addition, together with Rodney Harrison, they are collaborating on a pilot field project in Patagonia on the heritage and archaeology of secrecy.
