Paul Burtenshaw

Paul Burtenshaw completed his PhD research at the Institute of Archaeology, UCL. His research advanced conceptual and practical approaches to the economic value of archaeology, examined the role of economic impacts in mobilizing support for heritage conservation, and developed practical tools to measure and manage economic value as part of sustainable archaeological management.

He previously completed his MA in Public Archaeology at UCL and his BA in Archaeology and Anthropology at Cambridge University. He has carried out economic impact and value assessments in Scotland and Jordan, and was recently a Research Fellow at the Council of British Research in the Levant, Amman, Jordan. He is now Director, Projects at the Sustainable Preservation Initiative, which seeks to preserve cultural heritage by providing sustainable economic opportunities to communities where endangered archaeological sites are located.
