Non-Funerary Deposition in Early Medieval Britain: An Interdisciplinary Examination into Popular Religion

This interdisciplinary project seeks to explore manifestations of popular religiosity in early medieval England through an examination of both the archaeological and historical evidence. In particular it focuses on the religious use of water-places, among them wells, rivers, and lakes, and the ways in which these places may have provided spaces for the deposition of material culture. Independent projects focus on the place of modern Pagan religion and their usage of archaeological and historical material as a source of authenticity and legitimacy.
