Research summary
PhD in Prehistory, University of Santiago de Compostela. Specialist in computationally informed-landscape archaeology, his research focuses on the application of advanced spatial statistics and GIS to model monumental landscapes. He is also interested in 3D imaging analyses for the study of rock art engravings and roman inscriptions. Former postdoctoral researcher at the University of Santiago de Compostela (I2C Plan, Mod. A, 2018-2021), he is currently a Marie Curie Research Fellow (MSCA-IF-EF-ST 2019, n. 886793) at the UCL Institute of Archaeology (UK), developing the project “Comparative Models of Megalithic Landscapes in Neolithic Atlantic Europe” (2021-2023). From his previous positions, he was able to work as visiting researcher at the Faculty of Archaeology, University of Leiden and the McDonald Institute for Archaeological Research, University of Cambridge.
Current Research
MEGASCAPES: Comparative Models of Megalithic Landscapes in Neolithic Atlantic Europe
The MegaScapes project will use the latest statistical and quantitative methods to examine whether the explosion of megalithic construction across Europe’s Atlantic façade between 5000-2500 BC (and especially 4500-3500 BC) provides evidence of a shared understanding across distant regions of the Atlantic European seaboard as long ago as the Neolithic. It will undertake a comparative study of four important micro-regions of megalithic construction spanning the United Kingdom, Ireland, France and Spain, which will use advances in computational and spatial statistical modelling to analyse spatio-temporal patterns in the arrangement of megalithic monuments, and their possible meaning in a wider landscape context.
