IoA involvement:

Janice is working on a cooperative project between the UCL Institute of Archaeology and Museum of the Emperor Qin Shihuang’s Mausoleum, focusing on a variety of materials (metal, wood, and ceramics) to address technology, labour organisation and imperial logistics. Many Institute staff members are involved in this project - Andrew Bevan, Thilo Rehren, Patrick Quinn, Sue Hamilton, Dorian Fuller, and Michael Charlton. Janice also works with Yijie Zhuang to teach BA and MA modules in Chinese Archaeology. In the coming term, Janice will co-supervise a PhD student with Andrew Bevan and Dorian Fuller, focusing on construction wood and environmental impact in the China’s first empire.
