Barbara Yorke joined the University of Winchester in 1977 as Lecturer in History. She became Reader there in 1995, and was Professor of Early Medieval History from 2001 to 2012. She studied history and archaeology at Exeter University, where she completed both her undergraduate degree and her PhD. In recent years she has been Co-Investigator on the projects Landscapes of Governance and Travel and Communication in Anglo-Saxon England. She is currently Honorary Professor at the UCL Institute of Archaeology, Emeritus Professor at the University of Winchester, and Fellow of the Royal Historical Society.
