A full-time Lecturership in Mesoamerican and/or North American Archaeology is available, beginning in December 2023.

Applicants are sought with the ability and expertise to teach broad thematic undergraduate courses, as well as survey courses in American archaeology (Later Prehistoric through Post-Contact periods). Active field and/or collections research in the Americas is also essential. Note that we are equally interested in applicants working anywhere in Mesoamerica and North America, including circumpolar regions.

The successful candidate will act as a Personal Tutor in our popular BA Archaeology and Anthropology, so some educational background in both disciplines is required. The successful candidate will also be expected to supervise research students, Masters’ and undergraduate dissertations, and undertake related administrative duties.

The successful candidate will have a regionally relevant PhD in Archaeology or Anthropology with an established research profile and track record of international and local impact and of gaining funding for research.

Candidates should have experience of directing fieldwork and/or collections-based research in the Americas (this may fall anywhere between Later Prehistoric through Post-Contact periods), including effective relationships with local stakeholders.
