Job Vacancy: Research Fellow (Radiocarbon Chronology and Palaeolithic Archaeology)

The UCL Institute of Archaeology currently has a vacancy for a Research Fellow in Radiocarbon Chronology and Palaeolithic Archaeology (Ref.: 1846304). The deadline for applications is 16 December 2019.

'Palaeolithic colonisation and cultural diversification in unfamiliar landscapes' (UP-NORTH) is a five-year project hosted at the UCL Institute of Archaeology and funded by the European Research Council. It explores the relationship between climate change and human behaviour during the last deglaciation in Europe.
 
Applications for a Research Fellow in radiocarbon chronology and Palaeolithic archaeology are now being sought by the project PI, Rhiannon Stevens. The post holder will help towards the completion of the project, which is due to end on 30 September 2020. Duties will include refining a pre-existing database of archaeologically associated radiocarbon dates, evaluating the data in relation to existing palaeoclimate data and exploring the relationship between chronology, technocomplex and climate in Late and Final Palaeolithic Europe.
 
The post is available from 1January 2020 to 30 September 2020 in the first instance.
 
The successful candidate will have a PhD in a relevant field of knowledge and the proven ability to undertake research of the highest quality. They will have good knowledge of European Upper Palaeolithic archaeology. They will be familiar with curation and management of large datasets and with statistics and corresponding software. The successful candidate will also have  experience using absolute chronological data in archaeological research.
