Founded in 1937, the Institute is one of very few places in the world actively pursuing research on a global scale in the archaeological sciences, heritage studies and world archaeology.

The Institute is globally recognised for the excellence of its teaching and student experience, as reflected in numerous university league tables. Currently ranked 3rd in the world for subject in the QS World Rankings, and 2nd in the UK in the Guardian Newspaper's University Guide 2020 League Table, with a score of 97.7/100, the Institute provides a world-class environment for students at all levels of study.

Our BA and BSc degrees are designed to provide extensive general training in archaeology: you can expect to learn about a full range of theoretical, analytical and field methods from some of the world's leading archaeological researchers. You will also have the opportunity to follow your interests in particular chronological periods, geographical areas or special fields of study.
