History: | In spite of Macalister/1945, 491, asserting that the stone was in the Edinburgh Museum, an opinion recanted in Macalister/1949, 202, the stone stands in its original position. RCAHMS/1957, 110, argues that the stone was taken to Bowhill for examination, but returned to its original site in the middle of the nineteenth century. RCAHMS/1957, 110, note 2, also states that a cast is held in the National Museum of Antiquities, although the bottom of this cast is `an imaginary reconstruction'. |
