History:The stone is first noted in Gibson's Camden, vol. 2, 510.

According to Westwood/1871, 258, in 1859 Miss Dora Jones sent a rubbing of the stone to Westwood, when the stone was `standing near the west end of the church'.

Macalister/1945, 352, records the stone `leaning against the outer face of the W. wall of the parish church'.

Nash-Williams/1950, 115, `against external W. wall of church'.

Palaeography:Nash-Williams/1950, 115, 'Roman capitals...with horizontal final -I. FIVS is perhaps a contracted (blundered?) form of FILIVS'.

Macalister/1945, 353, 'Roman capitals...the FI is, as usual, ligatured. The omission of the following LI is presumably due to the lapidary's error'.

The two Gs are sickle-shaped, or half-uncial. The MA of SENOMAGLI are conjoined, but not ligatured, and the letters vary in height with the S being consistently the tallest and the OMA of SENOMAGLI the smallest.
