History:Petrie/1872, 27: `this stone was found by Dr Petrie in the year 1822, lying loose at the east end of the churchyard at Clonmacnois'.

Macalister/1949, 45: `The stone was perfect in Petrie's time; it has since then been broken into pieces, of which only two are now to be found'.
