Congratulations to Institute alumnus Justin Yoo, who with his team won in the final round of ITV show 'The Chase', broadcast on 18 October.

Justin, who hails from New York, has just completed his MA in Egyptian Archaeology at the Institute and will commence a PhD at King's College's London in January looking at Greek archaic period trade and interaction with Egypt.

In 'The Chase' contestants play against an opponent who plays for the bank ('The Chaser'). Justin and his team mates prevailed on 18 October winning £31,000 between them!

Justin has also achieved more academic success, being awarded a CBRL internship in 2011 while an undergraduate student at the Institute and was invited to perform the same internship as Editorial Assistant for the CBRL British Institute in Amman's Bulletin for two 3-month periods in 2012.

Justin was also awarded a Platt Fellowship from the American Schools of Oriental Research (ASOR) in 2011 which allowed him to participate as a supervisor on the Tell Timai /University of Hawaii’s 2011 summer excavation season. Justin has indicated:

  • "The Platt fellowship allowed me to continue my training and help train even younger student archaeologists....I feel very fortunate to have had ASOR’s help."
