Lloyds Scholars Programme (Lloyds Banking Group)

Congratulations to Jennifer Carpenter (1st year, BA Archaeology and Anthropology) and Tahiya Qureshi (BA Archaeology) who have both won a place on the Lloyds Scholars Programme for 2012-13.

Lloyds Scholars is a unique social mobility programme run by the Lloyds Banking Group. Partnering with leading universities across the UK, they offer young people from lower income households a complete package of financial support, paid work experience and the opportunity to develop their employability skills.

This is the second year of the Lloyds scheme and the first year it has been run at UCL. As well as being given a personal mentor, Jennifer and Tahiya will undertake an internship with the group and voluntary work.

The scheme will also involve promoting the programme and the opportunity of a university education to those who may not have considered it as an option during their time at school.

About her success, Jennifer indicated:

  • "I saw this programme as a really positive opportunity and thought it was worth applying to see how far I'd actually get in the competition, given that they are interested in people from different academic backgrounds...."

The scheme attracts a high volume of applicants and only 15 places are allocated per university.  Applications for the 2012 Lloyds Scholars programme have now closed but interested students can register their interest for the 2013 competition here»
