Walking to site in the Botai region of Kazhakstan, while on fieldschool in 2011. We chose to walk rather than ride the 2 miles in the rather rickety ‘Mystery Machine’, which passes us here on the dirt road. We often saw groups of horses being herded across the landscape as we investigated evidence for the first horse domestication.
