Welcome to the team: Kayt Hawkins!

19 August 2019

Pottery specialist Kayt Hawkins has recently joined the team at Archaeology South-East! She’ll be analysing Roman pottery from sites in South-East and East England.

Our new pottery specialist Kayt Hawkins

Kayt comes to us from the Surrey County Archaeological Unit where she worked as the Archaeological Archives and Finds Officer.  Employed in commercial archaeology since the late 1990s, Kayt honed her skills analysing ceramic assemblages from large infrastructure projects in the south of England. She is primarily a Romano-British pottery specialist but is also an expert on ceramic building materials and painted wall plaster.

Within CIFA, Kayt is a member of the Advisory Council and an active committee member of the Finds Group. Kayt is committed to improving working conditions for archaeologists and heritage professionals across the sector, and is a tireless campaigner on the issue. She recently co-authored the BAJR Respect in Archaeology Guide and is a key member of the Respect team, working to highlight and tackle harassment and bullying within the profession.

We’re excited to work with her and wish her luck in her new role!
