Heritage Morning, Soham

10 August 2019

ASE archaeologists were recently part of a free Heritage Morning in Soham, with information and finds from our fascinating Fordham Road site.

The Fordham Road Exhibition at the Heritage Morning

The event was well attended, with many people coming particularly to view the Fordham road finds. On this site we uncovered a Roman rural settlement and a Saxon cemetery. Some had bought homes on the site and others live in surrounding properties that likely overlie further parts of the Saxon cemetery. There was lots of interest and great questions, and reminiscing about the graves some saw being excavated.

The Heritage Group aspire to procuring some of the finds for longer-term display in Soham in the fullness of time. ASE are currently working on the publication of the finds from this site.
