UCL Anthropology is celebrating a double success in the world of international audio storytelling, as two students from the Audio Storytelling for Radio and Podcast MA have been shortlisted for the 2025 New York Festivals Radio Awards. Libby Liburd and Naomi Bloomstein have both earned recognition under the UCL banner for their outstanding audio documentary work, in the ‘Student’ category.

The New York Festivals Radio Awards honour the world’s best radio and audio content across all genres and platforms. Libby and Naomi’s shortlisting highlights not only their talent and dedication but also the growing impact of UCL's innovative Master’s programme, which is led by journalist and documentary maker Athar Ahmad

In a further accolade, Libby Liburd has been named a winner at the prestigious Gracie Awards, which honour "exemplary programming created by women, for women, and about women" across radio, television, and digital media. Presented by the Alliance for Women in Media Foundation, the Gracies are a major recognition within the industry. Libby will attend a star-studded celebration in New York this June, where winners will be recognised for their achievements in amplifying women's voices and stories.

Commenting on the news, Libby said:

I'm over the moon to have been honoured with a Gracie Award from the Alliance for Women in Media Foundation, recognising my first ever audio feature Fight Fair. And to also have the piece shortlisted by the New York Festivals Radio Awards is just amazing! I'm super proud and feel very chuffed.

Athar Ahmad also commented on Libby and Naomi's successes:

It’s a fantastic achievement by both students and testament to their hard work over the last 18 months. These recognitions place Libby and Naomi’s work on an international stage and reflect the depth of storytelling and creativity fostered within our programme.
