Lecturer in Biosocial Medical Anthropology

UCL Anthropology invites applications for the position of Lecturer in Biosocial Medical Anthropology. The postholder will bring skills and experience that respond to contemporary demands and needs around emerging aspects of Biosocial Medical Anthropology, in order to help develop and expand our Masters and PhD programmes across the department and build links across UCL and beyond academia. The postholder will build on current programmes (MSc Medical Anthropology) whilst also helping to develop new programmes (MSc in Biosocial Medical Anthropology to start in September 2018). They will contribute to teaching core and optional courses as well as research methods to Postgraduate students within Anthropology, across the Faculty of Social and Historical Sciences, and beyond UCL, in line with emerging models of 'opening up' courses).

The position is available from September 2018.

Key Requirements

The successful candidate will be a promising researcher, capable of developing a cutting edge research programme in the area of Biosocial Medical Anthropology based on rigorous analysis of field materials.  We welcome applications from candidates with an applied emphasis and a research field that engages with biosocial or biocultural aspects of health, disease and well-being in ways that complement and extend the programme of  Medical Anthropology at UCL. The ideal candidate would have a skill base that demonstrates their ability to critically consider and engage with both quantitative and qualitative approaches and methods. Relevant research areas could include a focus on health and environment (including climate change), disease ecology, infectious and chronic disease, global health, developmental and biological plasticity.

The postholder will be based in the Medical Anthropology sub-group. Whilst also contributing to core research in aspects of Medical Anthropology, the candidate will be expected to initiate and extend interdisciplinary approaches to biosocial research concerning health, disease and well being across the department.

Candidates must hold a PhD in Medical Anthropology or a related area.
