Post-independence nation building and regionalism in the smaller Eastern Caribbean nations

Supervisors:

My research seeks to study the independence process in the Eastern Caribbean and to draw attention to the individual and shared histories of the Eastern Caribbean islands. Through my research, I hope to uncover and analyse the endeavours of the founding nations of the OECS as they proceeded to build alliances, protect their interests, and develop their nations whilst strengthening inter-regional relationships. It will explore the struggles of these nations to self-govern at a time of political turbulence within the region and given their location within the US sphere of influence in the epoch of the Cold War. It will also explore themes of nation-building, regionalism, independence and decolonisation in small island states.
