VACANCY: Associate Lecturer (Teaching) in Sustainable Development in Latin America and the Caribbean

We are advertising for a fixed-term part-time teaching post for Term 2, to start 11 January. Closing date: 03 January 2021.

Join our outstanding team to deliver world-class teaching for our Master's module AMER0002: Sustainable Development in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The post is part-time (7.3 hours per week) and is available from 11 January 2021 to 11 May 2021 to provide cover for sick leave.

The appointment will be made as a UCL Associate Lecturer (Teaching) and will be paid at salary grade 7 starting at £40,125 pro-rata per annum. The contract will be for 20% FTE. 

The post holder will lead on the Master’s course ‘Sustainable Development in Latin America and the Caribbean’. They will carry out teaching, research facilitation, knowledge transfer, and course administration within the Institute relating to sustainable development in Latin America and the Caribbean, and in particular, the underlying social, political and economic dimensions of environmental change and the contested character of discourses of the environment as they emerge and change over time.

The post holder will also assist with quality assurance procedures and act as moderator of assessment undertaken by other colleagues as appropriate.

It is expected that teaching will be delivered online for the duration of Term 2, but some work may be required on campus.

Key Requirements 

The successful candidate should have a PhD in a field relevant to sustainable development. They will also have experience of teaching at university level, comprehensive knowledge of the fields taught in module AMER0002, excellent communication skills, experience of assessing UG student work and training or experience in pastoral care of students. 

The post holder will also be expected to have the ability to conduct lectures and class teach using a virtual learning environment, has a committment to high qualtiy teaching and to UCL's policy of equal opportunity, with the ability to work harmoniously with colleagues and students of all cultures and backgrounds.

INTERVIEWS: 06 January 2021. Candidates shortlisted for interview will be asked to prepare a 10 minute presentation on how they would teach one of the classes for Sustainable Development in Latin America and the Caribbean. Shortlisted candidates will be given the module handbook ahead of the interview.

The successful candidate must be able to start on the 11 January 2021.
