A recent Canada-UK Colloquium in Toronto debated key foreign policy issues relating to Russia, Ukraine, China and the Middle East, chaired by the Hon Jean Charest, former Premier of Quebec and Deputy Prime Minister of Canada. A second debate was on Energy, Sustainability and the Environment, and a third debate on science and technology, including Generative AI, Space, Cybersecurity and Critical Minerals.

Four members of the Colloquium - two from Canada and two from the UK - will discuss the current international situation and the roles of Canada and the UK in the wake of ongoing conflicts in Ukraine, Gaza, the Lebanon and elsewhere.

Panellists:

  • Ambassador Scott Proudfoot - ex Canadian Ambassador to South Sudan & previously to the Palestinian Authority. He was overall Rapporteur for the Toronto Colloquium. He also took part in the Colloquium's discussion on the Middle East.
  • Hans Bathija - a graduate in Political Science from Glendon College, York University, and a Fellow of several learned societies, he lives in Toronto and was a member of the Canadian delegation at the Canada-UK Colloquium.
  • Nicolas Maclean - CMG, UK Co-Chair, The Canada-UK Council. A leader of the UK team in Toronto.
  • Thomas Nightingale - a Member of the UK Team in Toronto while a parliamentary researcher and Rapporteur for the Nuclear Energy discussion at the Colloquium.
