Equality, Diversity & Inclusion

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion are at the heart of the Institute of the Americas.

UCL Americas achieves Athena Swan Bronze Award

Athena Swan Bronze Award
We are proud to announce that the Institute has received an Athena Swan Bronze Award, which recognises our commitment, drive and focus to promote and achieve gender equality in the department.

The Institute is committed to creating a welcoming, fair, accessible environment; open to all and free of bias, discrimination, prejudice and intolerance. We aim to learn from the students and staff who study and work here, and we welcome feedback to make the Institute a more inclusive place of study and work.

Whether you’ve just joined UCL Institute of the Americas, or are an existing student or staff member, these pages aim to give you access to the resources you may need whilst studying or working with us. Seeking help, especially in an institution as big and complex as UCL, can be daunting. We would like to make it as easy as possible for you to access appropriate information and help, inside or outside of the Institute. This page is a resource of contacts and services that you can access at UCL.

To network, access support for and debate on specific Equality, Diversity and Inclusion issues, you may wish to join one of UCL’s many staff EDI committees or social networks or student Liberation Networks.

Should you feel that you have encountered, or been subject to, an instance of sexism, racism, ageism, classism, homophobia, or transphobia, if you have been discriminated against on the basis of your disability, gender, religious beliefs, age, or your sexual, ethnic or social identity, or if you want to discuss any other EDI-related matter, please contact one of the Institute Inclusion Leads and Faculty EDI Representatives, Dr Francesca Lessa and Rachel Cronkshaw, or relevant contacts in the pages below.
