Running great alumni group and network events
Running a brilliant event doesn’t have to be complicated. There are lots of different ways to do it, and below are some successful formats and resources you can use.

Event format ideas
- Panel talks
Purpose: Supporting lifelong learning and career aspirations of fellow alumni.
Audience: All alumni (current students should be considered)
Format: A 60–90-minute session (either virtual or in-person) comprising 3-4 panellists and a chair to facilitate discussion. Interesting and topical subjects should be considered to entice fellow alumni to sign up.

Purpose: Supporting lifelong learning and career aspirations of fellow alumni.
Audience: All alumni (current students should be considered)
Format: A 60–90-minute event (either virtual or in-person). These talks showcase the career journey and expertise of an individual, in conversation with a host. While the host should be a UCL graduate, the guest speaker could be outside of the UCL community but someone of considerable interest.

Purpose: An activity that builds community and pride and supports the wellbeing of fellow alumni.
Audience: All alumni (200-person audience maximum if online)
Format: This could be a virtual or in-person event. Quizzes could be built around themes such as UCL, London or the region you live in. We recommend a maximum of five rounds containing 10 questions.

Purpose: These events can support community building or be focused on employability and lifelong learning.
Audience: All alumni (current students should be considered), maximum of 150 participants.
Format: Usually a 60-minute session, this virtual or in-person event can also be shortened to 30 minutes and added on to a panel talk or fireside chat. Speed networking can be formal or informal in approach depending on the purpose. We recommend that attendees are split into small groups (no more than 10) and rotate at least once during the event.
