Alumni gathered at Malmaison in Oxford and the Grain and Hop Store in Cambridge this May for an opportunity to expand their UCL network and to be part of a special moment in UCL’s history.
These events follow receptions in Bristol and Manchester in October 2025 as we seek to expand the reach of UCL’s alumni events and connect with more alumni across the UK.
With nearly 100 guests attending across both cities, it was great to see connections being made and renewed, hear the breadth of alumni career journeys, and celebrate UCL’s impact over the last 200 years.
At the heart of the events was a key message: stay in touch and get involved. As an alum, your relationship with UCL is lifelong and there are many benefits to staying connected. Andy Stirups (Senior Alumni and Supporter Relations Manager - UK and Europe) shared more about UCL’s Here, it will happen philanthropic and engagement campaign, highlighting opportunities to engage - from professional development events to mentoring current students, or even volunteering to help us to run similar local events in future.
Cambridge guests got the chance to see our pop-up UCL200 exhibition which details some of the key moments in UCL’s history.
Lucy Briggs (left), Programme Director for UCL’s Bicentennial, shared details of the incredible programme of events open to alumni as part of the UCL200 celebrations. Dr Sam Blaxland (right), Lecturer in Education at the IOE, offered an insight into his book Student London. Co-authored with UCL’s Professor Georgina Brewis to celebrate the bicentenary, Student London examines how student life has shaped London’s history over the last two centuries. You can read it for free online via UCLPress.
