Discover Ruth's inspiring journey from academic researcher, earning her PhD in Neuroscience from UCL in 2013, to becoming a leading educator in entrepreneurship.

About the Speaker
Dr Ruth Weir
Head of Entrepreneurship at UCL Innovation & Enterprise
Ruth holds a degree in Biochemistry from the University of Bath, where she gained early research experience through internships at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis and Duke University. She later completed her PhD in Neuroscience at UCL and continued her research at the MIND Institute at the University of California, Davis.
After transitioning from research, Ruth returned to UCL to join the Innovation & Enterprise team. Now, as Head of Entrepreneurship at UCL, she is passionate about empowering students to explore their entrepreneurial potential. Ruth leads initiatives that help students develop essential skills—like problem-solving, creative thinking, and storytelling, and for those that want to create their own startup, supports them through ideation, creation, and scaling.
