25 February 2025
In September 2024 we welcomed Canhui Liu, Research Fellow in AI policy, to the UCL AI Centre. We now congratulate him on his nomination as a Fellow of the Institute for the Future of Work, and catch up on his achievements since September.

Canhui’s research at the AI Centre focuses on how AI regulations evolve across the EU, US, and Asia, offering insights from a UK perspective.
He recently represented the AI Centre and AI Hub in Generative Models at the Global Workshop on the Safety of Open-Source AI. The workshop brought together leading academics and industry experts from the UK, US, and China for discussions on international collaboration in open-source AI safety.
The release of DeepSeek AI has further highlighted the need for global cooperation on the safety and governance of AI in today’s rapidly evolving technological landscape. Canhui has contributed to the first-ever Statement on Enhancing International Collaboration on Open-Source AI Safety, marking a significant step toward responsible and secure AI development worldwide.
He also participated in the AI Summit in Paris, engaging in discussions on the future of AI standards and risk management.
Congratulations to Canhui on his nomination as a Fellow of the Institute for the Future of Work, where he will explore the evolving landscape of work in the AI era and foster collaboration between the AI Hub in Generative Models and the Institute for the Future of Work.
