AI Hub in Generative Models unveils its staff team

18 November 2024

The team that is managing the new AI Hub in Generative Models has been announced.

The Gen AI Hub Admin Team

Bina Fatania has joined as Hub Manager from Advance HE, while Rosie Niven has joined as Communications Officer, initially in combination with an existing role for the Science and Engineering South consortium. Charlotte Fergusson is the Hub administrator, joining from Westminster City Council’s Organisational Development Team.

They join Hub Director, Professor David Barber, who works on the project alongside his role as Director of The Centre for Artificial Intelligence.

The UKRI-funded Hub brings together experts from eight partner universities and, in collaboration with industry partners, will deliver a programme across a range of disciplines designed to share benefits with the UK AI ecosystem. The hub will allow researchers to work together on projects and enterprises in a way no single university can do on its own.

The Hub’s overarching objective is to create tools that UK industry, science and government can use to fine-tune generative models, interacting with them easily and making these tools widely available.

Researchers from Hub partners Cambridge, Oxford, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Manchester, Imperial, Surrey and UCL, will come together to address the technical, ethical and societal implications AI technologies and support economic development.

The hub is one of nine artificial intelligence research hubs announced in February that will deliver next-generation innovations and technologies.

The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), is investing £80 million in the new hubs to help to propel the UK to the forefront of advanced AI research.

Professor Barber, said: "The AI Hub in Generative Models is a part of an exciting movement in AI. The Hub's goal is to improve the efficacy of training of Gen AI systems and bring benefits to the economy and society.

"I'm delighted that we've managed to attract a very high calibre support team of Bina, Rosie and Charlotte, each bringing a wealth of expertise and passion to the role. Exciting times ahead for us all."
