Stephen M. Hart, Professor of Latin American Film, Literature and Culture in the School of European Languages, Culture and Society (SELCS), has been awarded £97,155 from the Leverhulme Trust to support a two-year Major Research Fellowship (1 October 2015 until 30 September 2017).

He will conduct research on the life and work of the inaugural saint of the Americas, Santa Rosa de Lima (1586-1617). The project will involve creating a new edition of previously unpublished material of the Apostolic Processus based on a collation of manuscripts held at the Archivo Arzobispal in Lima and the Archivio Segreto Vaticano in Rome.

The aim of the edition is to reveal new knowledge about Santa Rosa's life, while providing information about the history of textual editions and new insights into cultural history of the early New World relating to religion, politics, science, gender, slavery and translation. Professor Hart was awarded the Order of Merit by the National University of Trujillo in Peru on 24 October 2014.
