Founders of Tripbod.com speaks at UCL's Entrepreneurship Guest Lecture
15 October 2010
Getting a UCL alumnus – or even better, as there are so few female entrepreneurs – a UCL alumna – back to talk always feels special.
There is obviously a particular rapport between the students and the speaker. So it proved on Thursday when Sally Broom (who graduated in 2006) came and talked about her venture, Tripbod.com. The idea is simple – it helps to enhance the joy of travel by linking up people in different countries. Sally was, as always, enthusiastic and open. She shared with us how she had had to rethink various elements of her idea – even areas as fundamental as the target customer! The Q and A session afterwards ranged from fundamental issues of profitability to key questions about the service itself such as the vetting process for the Tripbods. A mixture of “big picture” and true detail.
Sally Broom, Founder of Tripbod, commented "We thoroughly enjoyed the evening (demonstrated by completely losing track of time and missing our dinner appointment!) We were also extremely impressed by the students as they were all so enthusiastic and clearly very switched on when it comes to starting up in business".
Tripbod.com has grown from the foundations of Your Safe Planet, a company built as a result of the London Entrepreneurs’ Challenge (a workshop programme and business plan competition open to all members of UCL, Royal Veterinary College, Birkbeck and the London Business School that aims to show participants the process of starting a business by helping them do it for themselves).
