Knowledge Exchange Associate
Martin obtained a PhD in Robotics from UCL, specialising in the field of Simultaneous Localisation and Mapping (SLAM), that is assisting a robot building a map of an environment, while localising itself relative to this map. In particular his research has focused on aiding SLAM when some prior information, such as an inaccurate prior map is available. He has worked with BAE Systems applying his research to robotic vehicles equipped with laser scanners, and with QinetiQ applying vision-based SLAM to assist operators in tunnels.
As a Knowledge Exchange Associate, he is working with Mo-Sys Technologies, a company specialising in systems for tracking cameras in film and TV studios. There he is leading the development of a next-generation visual tracking system. The system is now sufficiently mature that in addition to software and hardware development, he is testing the system and giving demonstrations in TV studios in Britain and Europe.
