Samantha Fanning

Head of Digital

Samantha Fanning, Head of Digital

Samantha joined UCL in January 2019, as Head of Digital for CAM and ISD, a newly created role that aims to combine the digital service offer for UCL’s web estate across content, design and development. The teams can work more closely together, supporting the publishing platform, Drupal, as well as offer support and best practice advice on content strategy, SEO, web analytics, and UX, all via one route, for the whole institution.

And that’s incredibly important - the website is often a prospective student’s primary experience of the breadth of UCL’s offer. Having led digital functions in the charity and public sector, and managed award-winning web teams, this is Samantha’s first experience of Higher Education, but she’s loving it. Not only are the challenges and opportunities very similar, but it’s reignited her interest in some further digital-related study when time allows. A regular speaker at conferences on the topic of content operations and digital team transformations, she’s looking forward to expanding her knowledge of UCL’s specific audience needs, supporting the teams to do great things, and baking a lot of cakes.
