With a strong scientific background and a PhD in virology and nanotechnology, Bex moved into communications after working as a scientific adviser for the UK Parliament.
During her career, she has worked for communications consultancies Campus PR and Instinctif Partners. Here, Bex won a gold CIPR PRide award for best healthcare campaign and global in-house awards for Best PR Campaign, Best Design Project and Best Impact on a Client’s Business.
Since 2014, Bex has led on integrated communications campaigns to promote UCL’s groundbreaking work to a global audience. This includes the discovery of the world’s oldest fossils which reached an estimated audience of 1.67 billion through more than 2,600 news stories including front pages for the New York Times, Financial Times and Telegraph. Bex also secured eight UK front pages and blanket coverage for the first image of a black hole taken by a team involving UCL researchers in 2019.
