'VERDICT MRI: processing and deployment with MATLAB toolbox and Docker' - introduced by Prof. David Atkinson, UCL Centre for Medical Imaging

Speaker Bio

David Atkinson is a Professor of Imaging in Medicine in the UCL Centre for Medical imaging. David did an undergraduate degree in Physics, followed by a PhD in optoelectronics. He then worked as a Scientific Programmer on an oil reservoir simulator before returning to UCL as a PostDoc. With experience in signal processing and FFTs, he moved to Guy’s Hospital to work on motion correction in MRI. He was awarded an EPSRC Advanced Research Fellowship and returned to UCL in 2005 as a member of the newly-formed CMIC. Since 2011 he has been based in the Division of Medicine where he continues to research and develop new acquisition and processing methods for MRI whilst also facilitating multiple academic studies and helping with the NHS service.

More about David Atkinson

Abstract

This talk will start with some personal anecdotes relating to scientific computing that have shaped some of David's views on programming.

Subsequently, the talk will outline the “VERDICT” model of cancer tissue, the associated MRI acquisition, processing steps and current efforts to include these within clinical imaging trials.

Finally, David will provide pointers to MATLAB tools, primarily for handling DICOM, along with packaging code for local users and Docker containerisation.
