Online Drop-in Sessions

ARC is starting a new series of regular online drop-in sessions for all research staff and research students, providing digital research support, troubleshooting and advice.

Support topics

If you have any problems related to the following areas, we should be able to help:

  • choosing the right software, hardware and services,
  • research programming,
  • task automation and scripting,
  • high performance computing,
  • data science,
  • storing large datasets,
  • handling sensitive data,

These sessions will run every Monday from 3pm to 4pm starting in February.

Please note that there will be no online drop-in sessions on Monday 25th August and Monday 1st September, due to staff holidays.

If the problem is likely to need a lengthy discussion (half an hour or more) or requires very specific knowledge (e.g. of an unusual programming language) it would be very helpful if you could email a short summary of your problem to arc@ucl.ac.uk at least 2 days before the session you would like to attend - we can then try to make sure a member of staff with appropriate expertise is available.

Research Programming Hub

If you're looking for support with computer programming you can also find help via the UCL Research Programming Hub: a UCL wide network for people who are interested in programming. The Programming Hub Slack workspace is open to anyone with an @ucl.ac.uk email address and features a #helpme channel where you can post your questions to the community. Slack's guide for new users provides a quick introduction if you're new to the platform.
