About us

We are pleased to announce the Centre for Advanced Research Computing (ARC), UCL’s new centre for infrastructure and innovation in digital research, which launched on August 1st.

The world’s most challenging problems increasingly require not only multidisciplinary collaboration but also advanced computational and analytical resources, and the specialist research team members who work with them to enable the research.

ARC will provide a place for UCL’s different academic disciplines to come together and collaborate on the methods and approaches of computational science and digital scholarship.

ARC will be the home for the supercomputers, datasets, software and people that make computational science and digital scholarship possible. We are an innovative hybrid: a professional services department with an academic mission. We deliver reliable and secure infrastructure and services to UCL research groups, and are a laboratory for research, teaching and innovation in the application of advanced computational and data-intensive research methods, working in partnership with academics from all fields, winning grants and writing papers.

In particular, we are keen to be a home for the research technology professionals - data scientists, informaticians, research software engineers, HPC systems engineers, dev-ops specialists, data engineers and data stewards - who support and collaborate in the delivery of team-based UCL research, providing outstanding career development opportunities for these new kinds of research professionals.

As we build and grow, ARC will also offer a full range of taught modules in the methods of computational science and digital scholarship which can be included in UCL degree programmes.

For more information on ARC and the work we are involved in, please do contact Chris Langridge, Departmental Adminstrator.
