12 Days of Christmas Competition Terms and Conditions

Read the terms and conditions for our annual Christmas competition, 12 Days of Christmas.

  1. University College London a body corporate established by Royal Charter with company number RC000631 of Gower Street, London WC1E 6BT (UCL) is the promoter of this prize draw. 
  2. The competition is open to all current UCL Accommodation 2020/2021 residents who are 18 years old or more, except any residents who are UCL staff or staff of associated third party contractors to UCL. 
  3. People who have left UCL Accommodation are not eligible to enter the prize draw.
  4. The competition is free to enter.  Twelve separate competitions will be held - one on each day on which the competition is open (those days being set out in paragraph 11 below).  
  5. On each day of the competition, the UCL Accommodation team will post a "12 Days of Christmas" competition photograph on Facebook and Instagram.  Alongside that photograph, the UCL Accommodation team will invite competition entrants to post a comment against that photograph using one number from a selection of numbers specified by the UCL Accommodation Team for that day.  The only way to enter the competition on any day will be to comment under the "12 Days of Christmas" competition photograph for that day, using one of the numbers specified by the UCL Accommodation team for that day.   
  6. UCL will not accept competition entries that are automatically generated by computer; completed by third parties or do not meet the entry requirements set out at paragraphs 2, 3 and 4 above.
  7. By entering the competition you agree to be bound by these terms and conditions. UCL reserves the right to refuse to award the prize to anyone in breach of these terms and conditions. 
  8. UCL reserves all rights to disqualify you if your conduct is contrary to the spirit or intention of the competition.
  9. Only one entry per person per day is permitted over the course of the competition period. 
  10. Multiple entries by the same person on the same day will be disqualified.
  11. The competition opens at 9.30am on 30 November 2020,the closing time is 11.59pm each day over the 12 day period until 11 December 2020. Any entries submitted after this time will not be included in the competition for that day. 
  12. UCL accepts no responsibility for entries not successfully completed due to a technical fault of any kind.
  13. UCL will not accept evidence of transmission as proof of receipt of entry to the competition.
  14. On days one to eleven of the competition, a random number generator will choose one of the numbers which was specified by the UCL Accommodation team as being required to be posted against the "12 Days of Christmas" competition photograph for that day. All entries which posted that number against the "12 Days of Christmas" competition photograph for that day will be entered into the prize draw for that day. On the final day of the competition all valid entries for that day will be entered into the prize draw. 
  15. The winner for each day of the competition will be selected randomly by UCL Accommodation from the entries entered into the prize draw for that day (as described in paragraph 14).  That selection will take place on the day after the closing date for the relevant draw. That selection will be made using a computer programme to randomly generate the winner from the entries entered into the prize draw. One winner will be chosen from the prize draw for each day, (to a total of twelve winners over the course of the "12 Days of Christmas" competition).
  16. The prizes are as follows:
    Kindle Fire HD8 Tablet, Nutribullet, Santa Banter Game, Hot Chocolate Gift Set, Sony Portable Waterproof Speaker, What do you Meme Game, Scratch off World Map, Fitbit Inspire, Anker Power Bank, Hotel Chocolat Hamper, £25 Gift Card, and a Mini Video Projector
  17. Winners will be notified directly via direct messaging on Facebook or Instagram the day of the draw. The winner will also be announced on UCL Accommodation Instagram and Facebook.
  18. Each prize will be available from the day after its draw, with the first prize being available from Wednesday 2 December 2020. 
  19. If claimed, prizes will be delivered to the winner by UCL in their UCL residence within 60 days. 
  20. If one or more winners do not claim their prize before 8 February 2021 then they will forfeit the prize and a re-draw will take place. 
  21. There is no cash alternative to the prize and it is non-exchangeable and non-transferable.
  22. Prizes come with no warranties or guarantees from UCL other than those extended by the manufacturer of each prize.
  23. All our prizes are sourced directly from trusted sellers and in the unlikely event that a prize develops a fault or has any issues, the winner should speak directly with the manufacturer and UCL accepts no liability in this regard.
  24. UCL does not accept any responsibility if you are not able to take up the prize.
  25. UCL reserves the right to replace any prize with an alternative prize of equal or higher value if circumstances beyond UCL's control makes it necessary to do so. 
  26. The decision of UCL regarding any aspect of the competition is final and binding and no correspondence will be entered into about it. 
  27. UCL is required to either publish or make available information that indicates that a valid award took place. To comply with this obligation UCL will publish the winners names on Facebook and Instagram. UCL will also send the surname and county of residence of prize winners and, if applicable copies of their winning entries, to anyone who emails accom.comms@ucl.ac.uk within one month after the closing date. If you object to any or all of your surname, county of residence and winning entry being published or made available, please contact UCL at: accom.comms@ucl.ac.uk. In such circumstances, UCL must still provide the information and winning entry to the Advertising Standards Authority on request. 
  28. UCL may ask for your photograph with the prize so as to share the information on Facebook and Instagram. This is not a requirement of entry.
  29. So far as permitted by law UCL will not in any circumstances be responsible or liable to compensate the winners or accept any liability for any loss, damage, personal injury or death occurring as a result of taking up the prize except where it is caused by the negligence of UCL, its agents or distributors or that of their employees. Your statutory rights are not affected.
  30. Your personal data will be processed in accordance with UCL’s Data Protection Policy and the student privacy notice.  The privacy notice includes information on UCL’s legal basis for processing your personal data, your rights as a data subject, sharing personal data with third parties and contact details should you require further information. UCL will only retain the personal data you provide for as long as it is necessary for these purposes and in accordance with UCL’s Records Retention Schedule. 
  31. UCL reserves the right to change or amend these terms and conditions. 
  32. These Terms constitute the entire agreement for the purposes of the competition between UCL and you.
  33. If any part of these Terms is or become invalid, illegal or unenforceable, they shall be deemed modified to the minimum extent necessary to make them valid, legal and enforceable. If such modification is not possible, the relevant provision or part-provision shall be deemed deleted. Such deletion or part deletion shall not affect the validity and enforceability of these Terms.
  34. These Terms are governed by English Law and the parties submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
