Compliance Status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances and exemptions listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

Online Timetable - Sitewide Issues

The UCL Timetable in the banner has insufficient colour contrast for the foreground colour and background colour: This fails WCAG 1.4.3 Contrast (Minimum) (AA) and WCAG 1.4.1 Use of Colour (A).

Keyboard navigation using the tab function to move forwards/backwards is not fully automated, the feature signedin as n where n is the user is skipped. This fails WCAG 2.1.1 Keyboard (A).

Zoom to 200% obscures a lot of content. Please see the individual sections below for more detail. These all fail WCAG 1.4.4 Resize Text (AA). When zooming in up to 200% the events in the top row of the timetable become obscured this however depends on the information in the event, the Group Events and select Week from calendar are no longer correctly rendered therefore making it difficult for the user to apply a criterion. This fails WCAG 1.4.4 Resize Text (AA) and WCAG 1.4.10 Reflow (AA).

Zooming in up to 200% the signedin as element obscures the Moodle control tab. This fails WCAG 1.4.4 Resize Text (AA).

Navigating with the tab function will not always be in the correct order, there are instances when the tab control view places itself on the minimize window element. This fails WCAG 2.4.3 Focus Order (A).

The current week element is hidden when selecting change display.  When zooming in up to 200% the events in the top row of the timetable become obscured this depends on the information in the event, the Group Events and select Week from calendar are no longer correctly rendered therefore making it difficult for the user to apply a criterion. This fails WCAG 1.4.10 Reflow (AA)

The timetable zoom feature does not have a label or description such as percentage of zoom. This fails WCAG 3.3.2 Labels or Instructions (A) and WCAG 1.3.3 Sensory Characteristics (A).

There are three elements that are missing alternative text which are as follows: Enter range, Group events, Show unassigned events. This fails WCAG 1.1.1 Non-text Content (A).

The UserMenuPanelArrow for the signedin as feature is missing alternative text. This fails WCAG 1.1.1 Non-text Content (A).

The footer links are not in the same size font as the Get Started page this should be uniform across the web site pages. This fails WCAG 3.2.4 Consistent Identification (AA).

The above issue has been partially addressed, the pages Personal Timetable, Degree Programme Timetable, Custom Timetable are consistent. Due to design complexity these can’t match the Get Started page

The page title should display the name of the page a user is on for example Get Started, Personal Timetable, Degree Programme Timetable, Custom Timetable. The page title always displays UCL Timetable as default because this element has been hard coded. This doesn’t help users find content and orient themselves successfully.  This fails WCAG 2.4.2 Page Titled (A).

UCL Timetable Landing Page

When zooming in up to 200% the full description for the tab controls Personal Timetable, Degree Programme Timetable and Custom Timetable is truncated, i.e., Personal Timetable will display as Personal. This fails WCAG 1.4.4 Resize Text (AA).

The List item does not have a parent element without a role, or a role = "list". This fails WCAG 1.3.1 Info and Relationships.

Navigating with the tab function will not always be in the correct order, there are instances when the tab control view places itself on the webpage page title UCL Timetable which has the address timetable.ucl.ac.uk. This fails WCAG 2.4.3 Focus Order (A) and WCAG 3.2.3 Consistent Navigation (AA).

When a mouse cursor is used and NVDA screen reader is used, the in-audio description is only accessible if the elements Personal Timetable, Degree Programme Timetable and Custom Timetable are activated by clicking the mouse or selecting with a keyboard. This fails WCAG 1.3.1 Info and Relationships (A) and WCAG 1.4.13 Content, on Hover or Focus (AA).

UCL Personal Timetable, Degree Programme Timetable and Custom Timetable Colour Border issue.

Please be advised of an issue with each of the above Timetables where modules that are taught between Stratford and Bloomsbury will be distinguished by a blue outer border on your timetable. Modules that clash will be distinguished by a red outer border on your timetable. Modules that are taught between Stratford and Bloomsbury and that clash will be distinguished by a red and blue outer border on your timetable. Modules that are taught online will be distinguished with a yellow fill and cyan outer border.

Colour blind students may not see these borders, and are not read out for screen reader users, so any clashes or location changes may not be alerted. As such, if for any reason you cannot view these coloured borders or fill colour for these modules contact Timetabling for assistance. A member of the team will go through your timetable with you to advise of any clashes/issues that may occur. We apologise for this inconvenience and UCL is actively looking at a solution to remedy this. This fails WCAG 1.4.1 Use of Colour (A) and WCAG 1.1.1 Non-text Content (A).

Please click here to view the video guide explaining all the features” there is also a Dismiss button to close this popup. Note this pop up is shown the one time only upon first login, it will not be displayed following subsequent logins. The popup has insufficient colour contrast for the foreground colour and background colour. This fails WCAG 1.4.3 Contrast (Minimum) (AA) and WCAG 2.4.4 Link Purpose (A).

Adjusting the zoom in up to 200% the signedin as feature obscures the Moodle control tab. With the zoom in applied at 200% the timetable shows events spilling into the next event. This fails WCAG 1.4.4 Resize Text (AA).

When opening an event from the timetable with the 200% zoom applied the event doesn’t render correctly thus having an impact on other elements on the page. This fails WCAG 1.4.4 Resize Text (AA).

Grid view – Change display

When displaying content on a mobile device the events in the top row of the timetable become obscured this is dependent on the information in the event. This fails WCAG 3.2.4 Consistent Navigation (AA).

The current week element is hidden when displaying on a mobile device. This fails WCAG 1.4.10 Reflow (AA).

Grid and List views

Keyboard navigation does not allow the user to tab through events in the timetable. This fails WCAG 2.1.1 Keyboard (A).

UCL Degree Programme Timetable

When zooming in up to 200% the Enter Degree input box spills outside the degree programme timetable section. This fails WCAG 1.4.10 Reflow (AA).

When displaying content on a mobile device within the section degree programme timetable there is an input box that renders outside the degree programme timetable therefore making it difficult for the user to fulfil this action and display the associated information. This fails WCAG 1.4.10 Reflow (AA).

In the Degree Timetable when zooming in up to 200% the signedin as element obscures the Moodle control tab. With zoom in still applied at 200% the timetable in the Grid view state shows events spilling into the next event. This fails WCAG 1.4.4 Resize Text (AA) and WCAG 1.4.10 Reflow (AA).

When opening an event from the timetable with the 200% zoom in applied the event doesn’t render correctly thus having an impact on other elements on the page. This fails WCAG 1.4.4 Resize Text (AA).

Grid and List Views

When a mouse cursor is used and NVDA assisted technology is used, the in-audio description is not available for all elements. When selecting the change display feature in both Grid and List views the in-audio description is not available for Group Events and the associated checkbox and arrowkey This fails WCAG 1.3.1 Info and Relationships (A).

Custom Timetable

In the Custom Timetable Generator page when zooming in up to 200% the signedin as element obscures the UCL Maps element. The enter module name text box spills off the screen so the slide bar has to be used to allow for appropriate information to be entered, however what is entered will not be visible fully. This fails WCAG 1.4.4 Resize Text (AA) and WCAG 1.4.10 Reflow (AA).

The element Search by department/subject area OR module info has a help link titled Find out more, when selected the text takes over the page and doesn’t remain static it flashes so difficult to read. When zooming in up to 200% the text is difficult to read given that only a subset of the information is displayed. This fails WCAG 2.3.1 Three Flashes or Below Threshold (A).

Users can access third-party accessibility statements using the free searchBOX Finder service.

University College London encourages all our partners and suppliers to support this effort by ensuring that their accessibility information is included in the searchBOX directory.
